"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me…” - Matthew 25:35
Every year, Saint Mary Parish parishioners generously provide donations for Thanksgiving Baskets for over 200 area families who are in need in the Monmouth County area.
Please donate items of food that will be donated to Monmouth and Ocean County Food Bank and local food pantries for distribution to families in need or to be used to prepare meals cooked and served to the needy on Thanksgiving.
Non-perishable items that have been requested by local charities are:
- Canned Yams, Potatoes, or Rice
- Cranberry Sauce
- Coffee or Tea Bags
- Green Beans
- Pie Crust Mix/Pie Fill or Cake Mix/Frosting
- Canned Fruit
- Dry Milk
The Parish of Saint Mary provides turkeys along with the non-perishable food, but no longer have freezer space to store the turkeys. We are setting up a voucher system with a large grocery chain for providing turkeys.
Therefore, in lieu of donating turkeys or gift cards, please make your check payable to “The Parish of Saint Mary” & put ‘Thanksgiving Food Drive’ in memo section.
Your contribution will be used for vouchers for turkeys or additional canned goods if needed.
• Help needed to sort the non-perishables donated by parishioners
• Help needed to pack food items in parish hall
Approximate time commitment: Active during the days prior to Thanksgiving (usually weekend prior for sorting, and Monday before Thanksgiving for delivery); any time that you are able to contribute during that period would be appreciated.
Location of Service: At the Church and on location for deliveries
This is a great Community Service opportunity!!
