As Catholics, we believe the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ; body and blood, soul and divinity.
The Church urges us to receive Communion regularly because it helps to bring us into the fullness of our life in Christ. Ideally, one receives communion every weekend (when fulfilling our obligation to attend Mass) on Holy Days, and as frequently as we are able. We are required by our Easter Duty to receive at least once per year.
If we are aware of having committed a mortal sin, we must participate in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation before receiving Communion.
Children in the Religious Education program receive their First Eucharist in the autumn of third grade, at a regularly schedule Sunday Mass.
