Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist in distributing the Eucharist and Precious Blood to the faithful during Mass. Some ministers also bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. (See Pastoral Care for more information)
Typical tasks and responsibilities:
Assist in setting the sacred vessels before Mass, distributing Holy Communion during Mass, and preparing or stowing the vessels for the next Mass.
Requirements:
Extraordinary ministers must be a bona fide parishioner, and a Catholic in good standing. This presumes regular Mass attendance, and a devotion to the Eucharist and the parish community.
Approximate time commitment:
New ministers attend an initial training.
Average serving frequency is 2-3 Masses per month (aside from Holy Seasons) plus 2 meetings per year.
